Silk was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Ilkay Silk is the daughter Peter Silk, an academic and Anna Silk, who's an actress, director, producer, playwright. Anna has some of her earliest memories of watching and going to rehearsals of plays. Silk appeared in several commercials when she was a kid. She completed a Bachelors of Arts from St. Thomas University. Theatre St. Thomas produced at least two early productions: Seven Menus, and The Kitchen. Silk was moved to Toronto in order to perform and advance in November, 1999. The following decade, she moved into Los Angeles. Silk met her spouse, Seth Cooperman, at an acting training held in Los Angeles, in 2007. They were legally married in December of 2009. On April 10, 2011 the couple renewed their vows in a Jewish ceremony in Fredericton after she converted to Judaism.
